Preah Chung Kran - Silk Weaving Village

The majority of Kramas - scarf/sarongs come from the Kampong Cham Province and so there are many weaving villages around however this one weaves only in silk.

You spot all the looms and wheels under the houses and splashes of colour - or you hear the clank clank of the wooden looms as they are working them. You use your hands and feet to operate the looms.

Ali really liked this one however it was going to take another 4 days to finish it so unfortunately she came away empty handed.

This is the silk thread before they wind it on to the bobbins.

This reminded me of Sleeping Beauty - the illustrations when I were a kid must of looked similar.

After washing and dying the threads they are hung out to dry.

At one of the houses they invited us upstairs to look at the ones they had finished...

And yes I did come away with one - not any of these ones in the photo - I will take a pic and upload it another time.

You can see how she is using her feet to operate the loom.
