Penang Hill - Bukit Bendera

Bukit Bendera rises 821m above Georgetown and is generally 5C cooler than the town, so off we went. There is a funicular that takes you up there. The first Swiss built funicular was installed in 1923 - wooden and open carriages and took half and hour to get to the top , since then the funicular has gone through many transformations and the one we caught was very fast - 5 mins and all enclosed - not so much fun!!
As some of you might know my parents use to live in Singapore and my older brother, Nick, was born there and on their travels around the area they took Nick, when he was about 2, to Penang - so here is a photo of my on the present day funicular ....... and below that is a picture of Dad and Nick, 40 years ago, on the old wooden open carriage funicular!!

At the top of Penang hill is a mosque and also a wonderfully decorated Hindu temple.

The view across Georgetown to mainland Malaysia and Butterworth bridge to the right of the photo which links the two.
