Smile Restaurant

This is Smile Restaurant where I live - my room is on the top, 3rd, floor along with all the students.
The SMILE Restaurant is one of the components of the MMK (Mekong Kampuchea Kid's) project run by BSDA. The children participating in the programs are either orphans or vulnerable children. Smile is a training restaurant where the students take part in cooking classes. learn service skills and English and Computer classes while gaining experience in the working environment. The vocational programs in MKK project give the kids a chance on the job market while also providing them with a safe place to live and a community of peers. At the end of the one year program the graduates are supported in finding a job or starting their own business.

Here a few pictures of the students at Smile Restaurant, learning some new dishes which will be appearing on the menu. The kitchen is tiny and only has 2 gas fires  - food when ordered here comes out when it is ready not all at once - but that is the Cambodian way. The students are so quick to learn and are such lovely people.

Pizza making training

Mmm
It does have it's benefits living here - I am used as a taster when they are making and trying new dishes - bang goes the diet!!

A truly scrumpy feast
