So the staff have started trying us on slightly unusual foods and today it was duck eggs - in the picture above they look innocent enough - but low and behold these are duck eggs with a difference as they have the duckling still inside them - they are left for anything from 15 to 60 days and then boiled!
They then get served with pepper, garlic, chilli, mint/basil and lots of lime juice. You tale the top off - sip the fluid and then delve into the rest of it.....
Everything is fine if you had a blindfold on but as soon as you see whats inside it just puts you right off.....
But when in Cambodia you have to try a little of everything!! so here I am being laughed at - Xenia had already gone first and her expressions weren't given me much hope for what I was about to do - note to self always go first...
We were given a helpful tip of don't look and just mush everything inside the egg up before eating....
I'm thinking 'what am I doing - I have only just got over some food poisoning!' |
Just laugh Jane to get through it... |
In it goes... |
At the best of times I don't like hard boiled eggs - why am I doing this... |
Not as bad as I thought - tastes of egg... |
don't look - too late - once you see it you can't like it... |
one spoon is enough for me thanks... |
Just one of the bones I didn't manage to mush up... |
DON'T look at the next picture if you have been squirming so far........
We had had enough so opened it up to see what it was like inside.... |
So that is one delicacy down just the fried Crickets and fried Trantulas to try now........
Mmmmm Bet young Sarah Gloyn would enjoy cooing over the cute chicks! Blimey, you are so strong! "I'm a Winchester Girl get me out of here!" heehee miss u XX
